Account and Login

I don't remember my user account password?

Use the form on the Send Password page.

The form is used to send a new password to the private email address of your user account. The old password cannot be sent as the passwords are stored in crypted form.

When the new password is sent the old password stays in effect until you use the new password to log in to your account. This way you can simply ignore the new password if someone else than you have requested it by accident.

Sending the password to other email address

If the private email address of your user account is no longer in use you can send the new password to an alternative address. In this case in order to make sure that you are the owner of the account you'll need to provide your birth date and correct answer to the secret question that you have defined for your account.

If you haven't defined your birth date and the secret question you have now way of authenticating yourself. The password can only be sent to the private email address.

Please note that using the Send Password page is the only way to retrieve the password to your account.

How can I change the account password?

You can find the password fields in the Account Information (m) page.

While you are changing the password please make sure that you have defined secret question and the related secret answer on the same page, and your birth date in the Own Information (m) page.

These settings will become important should you forget your password and a replacement password cannot be sent to the private email address defined for your account (that's why you should keep the private email address up to date). In a case like this a replacement password can be sent to an email address you choose, but only if you have defined your birth date, the secret question and answer, and remember the answer correnctly.

I don't remember my user account name?

If you remember the email address that you used to register the Freebok account you can request for the Freebok account name to be sent to that email address (m).

If you have created guestbooks with the user account you can get the account name using your guestbook name (m).

Finally, you can search for your information by using the user search (m). This method will not work if you have not defined your personal information in the "Freebok home" page, or if you have defined your privacy settings too high.

If you are unable to get your account name by using these methods you'll need to create a new account. The old, unused account will be automatically removed after certain period of time of inactivity.

How can I find user's profile page?

Link to the user profile page can be found next to the message if the user that you are trying to find has sent you a private message. Generally the same goes for messages in the discussion forums as well. Alternatively you can search for the user by using user search page.

The fastest way to get to the profile page is to write the URL yourself. In this case you need to know the Freebok account name of the usear.

The address to the profile page is:

http://www.freebok.net/~name/index.html

Where "name" is the Freebok account name.

The account name cannot be written to the URL if it contains special characters (such as "ä", "ö", "*", etc.). In this case the only option to find the profile page is to use the methods described earlier.

How can I remove my user account?

You can remove your user account from the Remove Account (m) page.

Removing the user account will also remove all resources created or affiliated with the account including private messages, discussion forums, guestbooks and all settings and messages that they contain.

The user account or any other removed information cannot be restored after the removal.

When I try to log in I get message: "Invalid password". I'm sure I type it correctly.

If the password is generated by Freebok you should copy and paste it directly from the email application to the password field of the login page. If you write the password by yourself there is a chance that you misspell it. Characters like number 1 and letter l are easily mixed especially if the font of the mail application is small.

If you have changed your password make sure that the CapsLock on the keyboard is not on and that you write the small and capital letters correctly.

One possible reason for the password mismatch is that you remember or write your account name incorrectly! The misspelled account name may exist, so you may not get warning about incorrenct account name, but about the incorrect password.

If you are still unable to log in to your account you can send a new password to yorself ( i ) via email.

I get the message "You are already logged in" when I try to log in

When you have logged in to Freebok and want to end the management session, please always log yourself out from Freebok by using the "Logout: name" link on the upper right corner of the page.

If you don't log out from the previous session Freebok will keep you online for 30 minutes after your last page load. If you don't log out but just close the browser and during that 30 minutes try to come back to Freebok the system thinks that you are still logged in with another browser and don't let you log in again.

In this case you can end the previous session by writing your account name and password to appropriate fields and clicking the "Log out" button ("Log in" button is replaced by the "Log out"). After you have interrupted the previous session you can log in back again.

You'll avoid these problems if you always remember to log out after you are done using Freebok management pages. The forced logout of the previous session should only be needed if the session information has been lost because you have disabled cookie support ( i ) or if your browser or computer has crashed and the session is left on because of that.

Do I have to accept cookies in the Freebok management pages?

It is recommended that you enable cookies while using Freebok management pages, this is not mandatory, however.

Freebok uses cookies to track your online status (so called session). When you have enabled cookies you can visit other pages than Freebok and still remain online. When you come back to Freebok you are still logged in and can continue to use the management pages without the need to log in again. The cookie tells Freebok that you have already logged in and you don't have to do it again.

If you have disabled cookies things get more complicated; the only way for Freebok to track your online status is to code the session information to each URL (internet address) that you visit. The coded URL might look something like this:

http://www.freebok.net/ index.html;jsessionid=A13214128C939D79

Disabling cookies is not a problem if you plan to stay on freebok.net server for the whole time. Freebok will add the session coding to each link automatically. However, if you go to another site the session coding will be lost and when you return to Freebok the system has no way of knowing that you have returned to the previous session and you will be presented a warning You are already logged in ( i ). In order to continue you need to log out the "lost" session and log in again.
